Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 94 bottles of Indian narcotic Eskaf syrup in a special anti-smuggling drive along the Chapainawabganj frontier early today. A special patrol team of Charbagdanga Border Outpost (BOP) under Chapainawabganj Battalion (53 BGB) conducted the drive at Chachchurchar village under Charbagdanga Union in Sadar upazila at around 1:00 am and recovered the contraband in an abandoned condition, according to a BGB press release.

Ongoing Efforts Against Smuggling

The seized Eskaf syrup, estimated to be worth Tk 37,600, has been handed over to Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station for legal action. This seizure is part of an ongoing effort by the BGB to curb the smuggling of narcotics and other contraband across the border. The release said that during July, 53 BGB, in separate anti-smuggling drives, seized 699 bottles of Eskaf syrup, 64 bottles of Phensedyl, and 90 bottles of liquor, while arresting one suspected smuggler.

Impact on Local Communities

The seizure of these narcotics is significant as Eskaf syrup is often abused for its codeine content, leading to serious health and social issues. The BGB’s proactive measures aim to protect local communities from the harmful effects of drug abuse. The continued success of these operations highlights the importance of vigilance and cooperation in combating cross-border smuggling.
