BGB Seizes 110,000 Yaba Tablets Worth Tk 3.30 Crore, Arrests Two in Teknaf

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized a large consignment of Yaba tablets worth Tk 3.30 crore and arrested two suspected drug smugglers in Teknaf upazila.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 110,000 Yaba tablets and arrested two suspected drug smugglers during an operation on the Naf River in Teknaf upazila early today. The estimated value of the seized narcotics is around Tk 3.30 crore, according to a BGB press release issued this afternoon. The operation was conducted following intelligence about a large consignment of Yaba being smuggled into Bangladesh from Myanmar.

How did the operation unfold?

Acting on intelligence, BGB conducted the operation in the area under the jurisdiction of Sabrang Border Outpost (BOP) of Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) at 1:30 am. At about 3:00 am, BGB detected a boat entering Bangladesh from Myanmar. As BGB personnel chased the vessel, the smugglers jumped into the river to evade arrest. BGB members apprehended two of the smugglers, while another escaped by swimming back to Myanmar.

Who were the arrested individuals?

The arrested men were identified as Jus Mohammad, 30, a resident of Kutupalong FDMN Camp-2 in Ukhiya, and Mohammad Ilias, 37, a resident of Alikhali FDMN Camp-5 in the same upazila.

What happens next?

The arrested suspects, along with the seized Yaba tablets, are being handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station after filing a regular case, the release added.
