A Ukrainian drone attack on logistics centres in Russia's Tambov and Moscow regions has resulted in eight deaths and 24 injuries, according to Russian officials. The attack targeted facilities belonging to Russian e-commerce firm Wildberries in Kotovsk and Elektrostal.
Escalating Conflict
The attack underscores the intensifying conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Ukraine has been retaliating against Russian strikes by targeting various facilities deep within Russian territory. Kyiv justifies these actions as a response to Moscow's continuous attacks on Ukrainian soil.
Governor Evgeny Pervyshov of the Tambov region reported that seven night-shift employees were killed when enemy drones hit a Wildberries logistics centre. In Kotovsk, 24 people were injured. Meanwhile, in the Elektrostal warehouse, one person was killed, and 37 were injured.
Wider Impact
The attacks also caused fires and injuries in other locations. A fire broke out at an oil depot in Noginsk, injuring two people and leading to the evacuation of a nearby maternity hospital. In total, more than 370 drones were launched toward the Moscow region overnight, with most neutralized by air defence forces.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the logistics facilities were used to supply sanctioned components for drone production and navigation equipment. In retaliation, Russian strikes in Ukraine resulted in one death and 13 injuries. The conflict shows no signs of abating as diplomatic efforts to end the fighting have stalled.
