Iran's Revolutionary Guards announced a surprise attack on an enemy command centre in Syria's Al-Tanf region, according to state media. The attack was reportedly conducted in retaliation for the deaths of three Iranian soldiers killed in a US attack on a barracks in Iranshahr.

Background of the Conflict

The Al-Tanf base, located near Syria's southeastern borders with Jordan and Iraq, has been a point of contention. The Syrian army took control of the base in February after the United States withdrew. However, the Revolutionary Guards have continued to target the area, claiming it is used by hostile forces.

Iranian Retaliation and Syrian Denial

The Revolutionary Guards announced the attack on the Al-Tanf base on Friday, following the deaths of three soldiers in a US attack. Iran's Tasnim news agency reported on the funerals held for the soldiers. A Syrian military source denied to AFP that any attack had taken place, adding complexity to the situation.

The Revolutionary Guards' claim of a surprise attack on the enemy command centre in the Al-Tanf region signifies an escalation in the ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States in the region. The denial by a Syrian military source further complicates the narrative, highlighting the need for verification and clarity in the reports.
