Iran has accused Ukraine of attacking one of its merchant vessels in the Caspian Sea, resulting in the death of one sailor and injuring another. This incident highlights the growing international implications of the Russia-Ukraine war. Iran's foreign ministry has condemned the attack, asserting that it will not go unanswered.

Incident Details and Reactions

According to Iranian state media, the attack occurred on Saturday morning, causing the ship to explode. The Islamic Republic has vehemently denied any involvement in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. In response, Iran summoned the Ukrainian charge d'affaires in Tehran to protest the 'hostile and criminal act.'

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Kyiv had carried out long-range strikes in the Caspian Sea against vessels transporting military cargo involving Iran. Ukraine's intelligence services reported drone attacks on sanctioned cargo vessels used for military shipments between Iran and Russia.
