Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana has been reprimanded by the ICC for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first ODI against Australia. The incident occurred in the 11th over of Australia's innings when Rana approached Josh Inglis in an aggressive manner after dismissing him. This is Rana's second offense in the past 24 months, bringing his total demerit points to two.
The reprimand was issued under Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which prohibits any language, action, or gesture that could be construed as abuse of a batsman after his dismissal. As a result, Rana received an official reprimand and one demerit point. The maximum penalty for a Level 1 offense includes a fine of up to 50% of the match fee and one or two demerit points.
Rana's previous offense occurred in November during a Test match against Ireland, where he was fined 25% of his match fee and received one demerit point for throwing the ball at Ireland batsman Cade Carmichael during a follow-through. If a player accumulates four or more demerit points within 24 months, they are converted into suspension points, leading to potential bans from international cricket.
