Killian Mbappe marked his 100th international match with a brace, propelling France to a 3-0 victory over Iraq in a match delayed by two hours due to severe weather. The match, held in Philadelphia, saw France advance to the last 32 of the tournament.

Stormy Conditions Cause Delay

The match, scheduled to start at 5 PM local time, was interrupted by a severe storm with strong winds and lightning. Play was halted, and both teams had to wait for nearly two hours before the second half could commence. This marked the first time in World Cup history that weather conditions caused such a significant delay.

Mbappe Shines

Mbappe opened the scoring for France in the 14th minute and added his second goal just nine minutes into the second half. Osmane Dembele, last year's Ballon d'Or winner, scored France's third goal in the 66th minute. With this performance, Mbappe increased his World Cup goal tally to 16, though he still trails Lionel Messi's record of 18 goals.

France's Path to Last 32

France's win over Iraq, coupled with their previous 3-1 victory against Senegal, secured their place in the last 32 of the tournament. They will face Norway in their final group match on Friday. Iraq, on the other hand, has yet to secure a win in the tournament, having lost all five of their matches so far.

Injuries and Substitutions

Iraq suffered a significant blow when their captain, Aymen Hussein, was forced to leave the field due to an injury in the 26th minute. France made several changes to their starting lineup, including Bradley Barcola, Manu Kone, and Luca Dinye.
