The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has launched a 21-day skill development camp for 30 young cricketers, marking the start of preparations for the 2028 ICC Under-19 World Cup. The camp, which began on Sunday at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan (BKSP), is the first major step in rebuilding the youth side after Bangladesh's disappointing performance in the 2026 ICC Under-19 World Cup.

Intensive Training Program

The selected players will undergo intensive training in batting, bowling, and fielding under the guidance of newly appointed head coach Hannan Sarkar. Sarkar took over from Naveed Newaz after the latter's contract expired. Assisting him will be pace bowling coach Dollar Mahmud and fielding coaches Mohammad Selim and Arshad Khan.

Rebuilding the Youth Side

This camp is crucial for the BCB as it aims to identify and groom players capable of forming the core of Bangladesh's squad for the 2028 ICC Under-19 World Cup. The focus is on long-term skill development and preparation, following the team's elimination in the second round of the 2026 tournament under Azizul Hakim Tamim.

Broader Youth Development Strategy

The BCB has already completed this season's Youth Cricket League. Additionally, another training program involving 45 players is currently being held in Khulna as part of its broader youth development strategy. These initiatives are designed to create a robust pipeline of talent for the national team.

Significance for Bangladesh Cricket

The success of the youth team is vital for the future of Bangladesh cricket. A strong performance in the 2028 ICC Under-19 World Cup could yield several players who will go on to represent the senior national team. This camp is a critical component in ensuring that Bangladesh remains competitive on the international stage.
