Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain has stated that the democratic process in Bangladesh has been restored due to the sacrifices of the martyrs of the July Uprising. Speaking at a discussion on 'July Martyrs' Day 2026', he highlighted that the change was made possible by the sacrifices of Abu Sayed and many others, ending 15 years of misrule.
The discussion, held at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare's conference room, began with a minute of silence in memory of Abu Sayed and all other martyrs of the July Uprising. Special prayers and a munajat were held to seek eternal peace for their souls.
Sakhawat emphasized, 'Their sacrifices restored our right to live and liberated us from the grip of an autocratic rule.' He explained that the groundwork for the July movement was laid in 2009 under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, culminating in a 15-year-long struggle and movement.
The minister detailed the persecution faced by leaders and activists during the previous regime, including the unjust treatment of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. He assured that the Ministry of Health will provide support for the highest medical care and rehabilitation for the families of the martyrs and those injured in the movement.
The meeting was chaired by Health Services Division Secretary Md Kamruzzaman Chowdhury and addressed by several high-ranking officials, including Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services Professor Dr Prabhat Chandra Biswas.
