A discussion meeting organized by Hill Women's Federation has called for a united movement until justice is served in the 30-year-old abduction case of Kalpona Chakma. The meeting, held at Dhanmondi's WVA Milanaytan in the capital on Friday, marked the 30th anniversary of Kalpona Chakma's abduction. Kalpona Chakma, the organizational secretary of the Hill Women's Federation, was allegedly abducted by security forces members on June 12, 1996, while working in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Since then, no trace of her has been found. The discussion meeting titled, 'Stop the culture of impunity to ensure safety of all women including indigenous women, ensure exemplary punishment for Lieutenant Ferdous Gang in the Kalpona Chakma abduction case,' saw several speakers demanding justice and security for women and children in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. They also called for the implementation of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord and a roadmap for its implementation. The meeting was chaired by Hill Women's Federation President Shantidevi Tanchangya, who raised three demands to the government: immediate high-level investigation into the Kalpona Chakma abduction case, ensuring proper justice for the guilty, and ensuring the safety and human rights of minority women and announcing a specific roadmap for solving the hill problems. The meeting also saw speakers from various organizations demanding justice for Kalpona Chakma and the implementation of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord. They also called for an end to the culture of impunity and ensuring security for women and children in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. The meeting was conducted by Hill Women's Federation Dhaka Metropolitan Member Koli Chakma.
