All universities in Bangladesh will be brought under digital transformation within the next two years, according to University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed. The initiative aims to ensure equitable access to quality higher education across the country.
Dr. Mamun made the announcement while addressing the 20th University Day and Freshers' Reception of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University. He highlighted that the transformation will begin with ensuring uninterrupted high-speed internet connectivity at all universities, followed by the development of digital classrooms, technology-based educational infrastructure, and smart campuses.
The UGC Chairman emphasized that this initiative will help bridge the digital divide between universities in the capital and those in remote areas, enabling teachers and students nationwide to access international-standard education, research, and digital knowledge resources.
Dr. Mamun also noted that the government has increased the revenue and development budgets for public universities in the current fiscal year to support this digital transformation and build a skilled workforce. He stressed the importance of merit and competence in university recruitment to make Bangladeshi graduates globally competitive.
Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Musharof Hossain, who presided over the event, sought UGC support for opening new science departments, recruiting teachers, and improving infrastructure to expand academic activities. He mentioned that around 11,000 students are currently studying in 25 departments under six faculties of the university.
This digital transformation is expected to significantly enhance the quality of higher education in Bangladesh, ensuring that students across the country have access to modern educational resources and technology.
