The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) has approved several procurement proposals, including the import of one cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and 30,000 metric tons of urea fertilizer, to help meet Bangladesh's energy and agricultural requirements. The approval came from the 34th meeting of the CCGP held at Cabinet Division, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.

LNG Cargo Procurement

Under a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, the committee approved the purchase of the 42nd LNG cargo for delivery on August 15-16, 2026. The cargo will be procured from Vitol Asia Pte Ltd, Singapore, through an international quotation process at an estimated cost of Tk 949.43 crore, with a unit price of US$22.35 per MMBtu. This procurement is crucial as LNG plays a significant role in Bangladesh's energy mix, particularly for power generation and industrial use.

Urea Fertilizer Procurement

The committee also cleared a proposal from the Ministry of Industries to procure 30,000 metric tons of bagged granular urea fertilizer from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO) for the 2026-27 fiscal year. The fertilizer will be purchased at US$357.25 per metric ton, involving an estimated expenditure of Tk 132.62 crore. Urea is a vital component for agricultural productivity, and this procurement aims to ensure sufficient supply for the upcoming farming season.
