Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood today stressed the importance of government-to-government (G2G) cooperation in helping narrow the trade gap between Bangladesh and Türkiye. He welcomed continued Turkish investment and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding Türkiye's participation in the country's energy sector, including LNG supply, during a courtesy call by Turkish Ambassador Ramis Şen at his ministry office.
Ambassador's Visit and Bilateral Relations
During the meeting, Ambassador Şen, who led a delegation, congratulated the minister on assuming office and conveyed the continued goodwill of the government of Türkiye towards Bangladesh. The ambassador briefed the minister on the current state of bilateral relations as well as Turkish investment and trade plans in Bangladesh.
Economic and Energy Cooperation
The two sides expressed satisfaction with the growing economic and energy cooperation between Bangladesh and Türkiye. They discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral ties in the energy sector. Ambassador Şen was accompanied by Bilal Belyurt, Commercial Counsellor at the Embassy of Türkiye, and Harun Ortaç, Chief Executive Officer of United Aygaz LPG Ltd.
Minister's Visit to Türkiye
The ambassador also invited the minister to visit Türkiye to further enhance bilateral relations and cooperation. In response, Iqbal Hassan Mahmood expressed his interest in visiting Türkiye. This visit could pave the way for more collaborative projects and investments in the energy sector.
Significance for Bangladesh
Strengthening G2G cooperation with Türkiye is crucial for Bangladesh as it seeks to diversify its energy sources and reduce its trade deficit. Increased Turkish investment in Bangladesh’s energy sector, particularly in LNG supply, could lead to more stable and affordable energy solutions for the country. This, in turn, could stimulate economic growth and improve the overall trade balance between the two nations.
