In a bid to ensure uninterrupted supply of fertilizers to Bangladesh's agriculture sector, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved a proposal to reduce the minimum tender submission period for emergency procurement of fertilizer raw materials from 42 days to 21 days. The decision aims to accelerate emergency imports and maintain adequate stocks of essential raw materials for urea, diammonium phosphate (DAP), and triple super phosphate (TSP) fertilizers.

The approval came during a CCEA meeting chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury at the Bangladesh Secretariat. The proposal was submitted by the Ministry of Industries, highlighting the need to expedite the procurement process to prevent any disruption in fertilizer production.

Officials noted that the reduced tender period would help maintain a steady supply of fertilizers, crucial for the country's agriculture sector. The decision is expected to enhance the efficiency of emergency procurement and ensure that farmers have timely access to essential fertilizers.

Additionally, the CCEA gave in-principle approval to appoint the 34 Engineer Construction Brigade of the Bangladesh Army, Chattogram, as the executing agency for part of a road development project in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram. This move is aimed at streamlining the implementation of infrastructure projects.
