On August 5, 2026, Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, the Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), visited the Rajshahi Silk Factory. Accompanied by BIDA officials, the visit aimed to understand the factory's operations and explore opportunities for investment in the silk industry. Rajshahi is renowned for its traditional silk products, which are popular both domestically and internationally.

Insight into Rajshahi's Silk Industry

During the visit, Director General of the Bangladesh Sericulture Development Board Toufiq Al Mahmud provided a comprehensive briefing on the factory's production activities. He highlighted ongoing research and extension programs, as well as initiatives to develop Bangladesh's silk sector. The overall condition of the factory was also discussed, underscoring its potential for growth.

The BIDA chief took a tour of the factory's showroom, where he examined a variety of traditional Rajshahi silk products. These included Garad sarees, designer sarees, printed sarees, two-piece outfits, Panjabi fabrics, Balaka silk, and various types of than fabrics. Impressed by the quality and craftsmanship, he purchased several silk products, indicating interest in supporting local artisans.

Accompanying the BIDA chief were several high-ranking officials, including BIDA Executive Member Humayun Kabir, BIDA Director General Jiban Krishna Roy, BEZA Deputy Director Dr. M. A. Mannan, and other board officials. Their presence underscored the importance of this visit in fostering collaboration and investment in the silk industry.

The visit is a significant step towards promoting investment in Bangladesh's silk industry. By exploring the factory's capabilities and potential, BIDA aims to attract more investors to enhance production and expand the market reach of Rajshahi's silk products.
