Bangladesh Bank has clarified that the appointment of Khurshid Alam as the chairman of Islami Bank is not affected by his wife's defaulted loan. The central bank stated that Alam himself is not a defaulter, but his wife's institution has a defaulted loan. Bangladesh Bank spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan explained that Alam's wife is a joint owner of an institution that took a Tk 3 crore loan from First Security Islami Bank, which later became defaulted.
Khan emphasized that labeling Khurshid Alam as a defaulter is incorrect, as the defaulted loan is associated with his wife's institution. He added that Alam's past allegations were based on incorrect information, leading to an inappropriate penalty, which was later rectified with his promotion to executive director and deputy governor.
Regarding Alam's appointment as chairman, Khan stated that the central bank stands by its decision and will not change it under any pressure or movement.
