Bangladesh Bank has appointed an observer to Islamic Bank Bangladesh PLC following ongoing controversies and unrest. The observer, Md. Ashraful Alam, an executive director of Bangladesh Bank, will monitor the bank's activities and participate in board meetings and committee sessions.

The decision comes after the Association of Bankers, Bangladesh (ABB) expressed deep concern over the instability at Islamic Bank. ABB Chairman and Citi Bank Managing Director Masrur Arefin highlighted the need for a swift resolution to the bank's issues during a meeting with Bangladesh Bank Governor Md. Mostak Ur Rahman.

Islamic Bank has faced significant customer withdrawals and financial strain following the appointment of a new chairman, leading to ongoing protests and demands for his removal. The bank has sought a BDT 10,000 crore loan from Bangladesh Bank to meet customer demands, though no decision has been made yet.
