Bangladesh is participating as the theme country in the 10th China-South Asia Expo and the 30th China Kunming Import-Export Fair 2023. The expos were inaugurated today in Kunming, the capital of China's Yunnan province. Organized by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and supported by the Consulate General in Kunming, 101 Bangladeshi institutions with 175 representatives are taking part. A total of 2,300 exhibitors from 68 countries are participating. The expo will run until June 16.
The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Yunnan Province Governor Wang Yubo. Bangladesh's Commerce, Industries, Textiles, and Jute Minister Khandker Abdul Muktadir delivered a speech, along with China's Deputy Minister of Commerce, Sri Lanka's Trade Minister, Nepal's Deputy Speaker, and Maldives' Trade Minister.
The Bangladeshi Commerce Minister stated that participation in the expo acknowledges Bangladesh's significant role in enhancing regional economic cooperation and connectivity. The expo will help showcase Bangladesh's economic progress, investment potential, exportable goods, and industrial development. It will also strengthen commercial ties between the two countries, explore new markets, and foster new partnerships in trade, investment, technology, and innovation.
The event was attended by Bangladesh's Deputy Speaker of the National Parliament Kaiser Kamal, MPs Akhtar Hossain, Md. Khaled Hossain Mahbub, Sultana Jasmine, Bangladesh's Ambassador to China Md. Nazmul Islam, and EPB Vice Chairman Mohammad Hasan Arif, among others.
After the inauguration, China's Vice Minister of Commerce Yan Dong met with Bangladesh's visiting Commerce Minister to discuss various aspects of bilateral trade and investment.
