World Environment Day 2026 was observed in Munshiganj district today with a series of events held at the Deputy Commissioner's Office. The day featured a discussion, prize distribution ceremony, and tree sapling distribution programme, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Syeda Nurmahal Ashrafi.

Lawmaker Md Kamruzzaman attended the event as the chief guest, while Superintendent of Police Md Menhajul Alam was present as the special guest. Other notable attendees included Munshiganj Zila Parishad Administrator A.K.M. Eradat, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Md Mahmudur Rahman Khandakar, and Deputy Director of the Department of Environment Mizanur Rahman.
Theme and Discussions
The discussion was held under the theme 'Climate Change: Today's Action, Tomorrow's Security'. Speakers emphasized the need for extensive tree plantation, reducing single-use plastics, proper management of natural resources, and adopting environmentally friendly lifestyles to combat climate change.
Community Involvement
Participants stressed the importance of collective action from individuals, families, educational institutions, government and non-government organizations, and people from all walks of life to create a safe, green, and habitable world for future generations.
Prizes and Tree Saplings
At the end of the programme, prizes were distributed among the winners of a drawing competition organized by the Department of Environment. Tree saplings were also handed out to encourage further environmental initiatives.

Earlier in the day, a colourful rally was brought out from the Collectorate premises to raise public awareness about environmental issues and the importance of collective action.
