Dhaka police have arrested nine individuals in connection with the robbery of 57 bhori of gold and cash from a gold trader in the Wari area. The arrested individuals are alleged members of an inter-district robbery gang. Police recovered 17 bhori of melted gold, Tk 6.8 lakh in cash from the sale of gold, a motorcycle, a microbus, and various other equipment used in the robbery.
According to a news release from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media and Public Relations Division, the incident occurred on May 27 at around 10:30 PM when gold trader Haripad Pal and a manager from his establishment were returning home with 57 bhori of gold ornaments and Tk 1.47 lakh in cash. The gang members, posing as DB police, intercepted them, threatened them with allegations of drug possession, and abducted them in a microbus. They were later robbed at gunpoint and released near Kamalapur Railway Station.
A case was filed at Wari Police Station based on Haripad Pal's complaint. DMP stated that the investigation involved analyzing CCTV footage and utilizing information technology. On June 6, the gang was preparing for another robbery at Ittefaq Mor when six members were arrested. Three more individuals were later arrested in Jessore and Tantibajar areas. Another case has been filed at Wari Police Station regarding the preparation for the robbery.
