Residents of Rasulpur Pakpara in Khetlal Upazila, Joypurhat, collected approximately 50,000 Taka and repaired their dilapidated road themselves after years of waiting for government allocation. The one-kilometer road, originally brick-paved about 20 years ago, had deteriorated significantly, causing hardship for over 200 families. Despite repeated appeals to local representatives and administration, no effective action was taken, prompting the villagers to take matters into their own hands. The repair work, involving both voluntary labor and the collected funds, began on a Friday morning.
Local sources report that the road had not seen major repairs since its initial brick paving. Over time, the bricks deteriorated, creating numerous potholes and making the road impassable during the monsoon season. Villagers highlighted the difficulties faced by students, elderly, and sick individuals in traversing the road. Ward member Rezaul Islam and Acting Union Parishad Chairman Milan Mondol confirmed the lack of government funds as the reason for the delayed repairs. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sanjida Chowdhury expressed surprise at the villagers' initiative and pledged to discuss the matter with the Union Parishad Chairman to include the road in future allocations.
