Two Arrested for Supplying Rotten Food in Madaripur Mid-Day Meal Scheme

Police have arrested two individuals in Madaripur for their alleged involvement in irregularities and supplying rotten food in the school feeding (mid-day meal) project.

Police have arrested two individuals in Madaripur for their alleged involvement in irregularities and supplying rotten food in the school feeding (mid-day meal) project. According to a press release from the Ministry of Education, A F M Ahsanul Habib (51) and Mo. Nuruzzaman (43) were arrested from Chandmari area in Madaripur Municipality on Monday following a case filed against the institution involved in the irregularities. They were later sent to court.

The arrested individuals were responsible officials at Samata Traders, an institution directly involved in the food supply activities under the school feeding project. They were arrested based on preliminary evidence of their role and responsibility in supplying rotten and unfit food items, as per the investigation.

Several students fell ill after consuming mid-day meal food in a few schools in Madaripur Sadar and Chapai Nawabganj Sadar upazilas. The incident was reported in various media outlets, prompting the government to take swift and stern action against the culprits. The Minister of Education and Primary and Mass Education, A N M Ehsanul Haque Milan, requested the district administrators of Chapai Nawabganj and Madaripur to form a committee including the Civil Surgeon to address the issue and take immediate action against those involved in the irregularities.
