Junior Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) Suman Ali of Western Zone Railway has been temporarily suspended following allegations of assaulting a student of Rajshahi University (RU) on the intercity Padma Express train from Dhaka to Rajshahi.

Incident and Suspension

Suman Ali was suspended by Divisional Assistant Commercial Officer-2 Partha Pratim Acharya through an office order. The suspension comes after a video surfaced on social media alleging that Ali physically assaulted a passenger while on duty. His actions reportedly led to an untoward incident at Rajshahi station.

Student's Allegations

The victim, Furkan Uddin, a student of the Department of Law at Rajshahi University, alleges that he saw Ali taking money from passengers without issuing government receipts. When he protested, Ali and another person accompanying him grabbed him by the collar of his T-shirt, took him between two compartments, and beat him severely. Other passengers intervened, causing the accused to move away.

Aftermath and Investigation

In protest of the incident, students blocked the railway tracks adjacent to the university, halting train services between Rajshahi and the rest of the country. Services resumed later in the afternoon. During the suspension period, Ali will receive subsistence allowance as per rules and has been instructed to be present at the Pakshi DCO office from 9am to 4pm.
