Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of eminent academic, writer, researcher, and Bangla Academy President Professor Abul Kashem Fazlul Huq. In a condolence message, the Speaker prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family. Professor Huq passed away while undergoing treatment at a city hospital on Sunday afternoon. He was 85.

Born on September 30, 1940, in Pakundia village of Pakundia upazila in Kishoreganj district, Professor Huq had a distinguished academic career. He served for many years as a professor in the Department of Bengali at Dhaka University and was also the department's chairman. His contributions to Bengali literature and language were significant, earning him widespread respect and numerous accolades.

Professor Huq is survived by his daughter, Shuchita Sharmin, a professor in the Department of Development Studies at Dhaka University. His son, Faysal Arefin Dipan, owner of Jagriti Prokashoni, was tragically killed by miscreants on October 31, 2015. This personal loss added to the sorrow surrounding his passing.
