A seven-year-old girl tragically drowned in a pond near her home in Benadop area of Narail Municipality on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased, Sumaya, daughter of Rowshan Molla, was a class two student at Bijoypur Government Primary School.

According to family members, Sumaya accidentally fell into the pond near their home around 3:00 pm while playing, without the knowledge of her family. Local residents later noticed her floating in the pond and rescued her before rushing her to Narail District Hospital.

However, the on-duty doctor declared her dead on arrival. Narail Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ajoy Kumar Kundu said the body was handed over to the victim's family after the completion of the necessary legal formalities.

This tragic incident highlights the dangers that unsupervised play near water bodies can pose, especially for young children. It serves as a reminder for families to ensure constant supervision when children are playing near ponds or other water bodies.
