A Khulna court has sentenced eight individuals to life imprisonment for a double murder that occurred in 2010.

A court in Khulna has sentenced eight individuals to life imprisonment in a double murder case. Judge Nusrat Jabin of the Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge First Court delivered the verdict today. The court fined each convict Tk 50,000, with an additional one-year rigorous imprisonment in default of payment. Nine other accused were acquitted as the allegations against them were not proven.

Background of the Case

The case dates back to February 28, 2010, when Md. Haidar and his brother-in-law Tarikul Islam Piku were attacked by a group of assailants armed with machetes, knives, and other sharp weapons. Both victims succumbed to their injuries. Haidar's wife, Marzina Khatun, was also injured while attempting to stop the attackers. Following the incident, a murder case was filed by Haidar's brother, Tayab Ali, with Sonadanga Police Station.

Legal Proceedings

After an investigation, police submitted a charge sheet against 17 accused on August 13, 2010. The court framed charges on January 27, 2011. The trial concluded with the conviction of eight individuals and the acquittal of nine others.
