Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested the principal accused in the sensational murder case of a young woman, Afia Akter Khushi, from Satkhira district. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of RAB-6's CPC-3, Jashore and CPC-1, Satkhira conducted a raid on Parulia Bazar under Debhata upazila of Satkhira at around 10.20 pm on Thursday and arrested the prime accused Md. Sayeed Mehdi, 30, an absconding accused named in the first information report (FIR).

According to a RAB press release, Sayeed Mehdi, son of Moslem Gazi of Dhepukhali Purbapara village in Debhata upazila, had secretly married the victim about two years ago following a love affair. The couple had been living in Jhenaidah town since their marriage.

RAB said the couple had frequently quarreled over family-related issues after their marriage, and the accused allegedly used to assault the victim. According to the case statement, on the morning of May 13, a neighbour found the door of the couple's room open and discovered Afia Akter Khushi, 21, lying dead on a bed inside the room.

The matter was immediately reported to the house owner, who informed Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station. Police recovered the body, prepared an inquest report and sent it to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Following the incident, the victim's father filed a murder case with Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station against Sayeed Mehdi as the prime accused.

After the arrest, the accused was handed over to Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station for further legal proceedings, said the RAB press release. The apprehension of Sayeed Mehdi marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the tragic murder of Afia Akter Khushi, bringing hope for justice to the victim's family and the community.
