A court in Jamalpur has sentenced Md Hafizul to death for killing his wife Hanufa Begun over a dowry dispute in 2012. Hafizul, 25, demanded Tk 50 thousand from Hanufa's family after their marriage, which they partially fulfilled. He later demanded Tk one lakh and threatened to kill her if not met. On September 4, 2012, just seven months after their marriage, Hafizul strangled Hanufa to death. Hanufa's mother filed a murder case with Bakshiganj Police Station. After examining seven prosecution witnesses and relevant documents, Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim of the Woman and Child repression prevention tribunal-1 found Hafizul guilty and delivered the verdict. Public Prosecutor Advocate Md Fazlul Haque confirmed the court's decision.
The prosecution revealed that Hafizul married Hanufa, 19, in 2012 without his father's consent. Despite this, Hanufa's father, Md Kamal Hossain, accepted the marriage and provided valuables. Following the marriage, Hanufa moved to live with Hafizul in Bakshiganj. However, Hafizul's demands for additional dowry led to the tragic incident.
