A court in Chattogram has sentenced Md. Nezam Uddin to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife, Shahnaz Begum. The Fifth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md. Tajul Islam convicted Nezam Uddin, son of the late Kabir Ahmed, from East Jiri area of Patiya upazila of the district. The court established Nezam Uddin's guilt under Section 302 of the Penal Code, based on evidence presented by nine witnesses.
Incident Details
Md. Nezam Uddin lured Shahnaz Begum to a residential hotel in the Bahaddarhat area of Chandgaon Police Station under the pretense of seeking medical treatment. Instead of taking her to a hospital, they checked into room 319 of Hotel Al-Reza, located near Swajan Supermarket in Bahaddarhat. Shahnaz Begum's body was later recovered from the room.
Legal Proceedings
Following the incident, Shahnaz Begum's brother Md. Azgar Ali lodged a murder complaint with Chandgaon Police Station. After conducting an investigation, the police submitted a charge-sheet against Md. Nezam Uddin. The court formally charged him on March 18, 2014, initiating the trial process. After an extensive judicial procedure, the court delivered its verdict on Tuesday afternoon, examining nine witnesses out of 20.
