The High Court has started hearing, on a priority basis, the death reference and appeals in the Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder case. A High Court division bench of Justice Bhishmadev Chakraborty and Justice KM Rasheduzzaman Raja began the hearing today. Deputy Attorney General Syed Ejaj Kabir and Assistant Attorney General Rohani Siddiqua represented the state. The Feni Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal had sentenced all 16 accused to death on October 24, 2019, and fined them Taka one lakh each. The case documents were sent to the High Court on October 29, 2019. Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury formed a dedicated High Court bench on June 10, 2026, for priority hearings on death references under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kazol also formed a special prosecutors' team for these cases.
