A Dhaka court has set September 23 for submitting the probe report in a graft case against five individuals, including former Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Vice-Chancellor Prof Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Shahjahan Kabir passed the order after the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) failed to submit the report on the scheduled date. The ACC filed the case on July 18, 2025, alleging embezzlement of funds from the BRUR development project.

Background of the Case

The case was filed by ACC Assistant Director Minhaz Bin-Islam, who accused the defendants of misappropriating funds intended for the BRUR development project. The other accused include former VC and project director Prof AKM Nurunnabi, former executive engineer Jahangir Alam, and contractors Abdus Salam Bachhu and M M Habibur Rahman.

Arrest and Remand

Prof Kalimullah was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police from his Mohammadpur residence on August 7, 2025. He was subsequently taken into police remand for five days in connection with the case on August 27, 2025.

Court Proceedings

The court's order to submit the probe report by September 23 comes after repeated delays. The ACC's failure to meet previous deadlines has prompted the court to set a firm date for the report's submission.
