Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu announced that the government is giving the highest priority to post-flood rehabilitation and is working in a coordinated manner to restore normalcy in the flood-hit districts. Speaking at a discussion meeting in Chattogram, Dulu highlighted the severe impact of recent flash floods caused by unusually heavy rainfall, which led to widespread damage in public life, agriculture, and infrastructure.
The minister noted that the Chattogram region experienced an exceptional weather event with around 412 millimeters of rainfall in a single day, resulting in severe flash flooding. He praised the efforts of local administration, law enforcement agencies, the Bangladesh Army, public representatives, and volunteers in responding to the disaster.
Dulu emphasized the government's focus on reviving the agriculture sector during post-flood rehabilitation, a priority discussed at an inter-ministerial meeting led by the Ministry of Local Government. He also warned of potential water-borne diseases following the floods and mentioned that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has dispatched essential medicines, safe drinking water, and medical supplies to the affected areas.
Local administrations have been instructed to regularly report on health service preparedness to ensure a prompt response to any outbreak. Dulu directed relevant authorities to prepare comprehensive damage assessment reports and expedite rehabilitation measures. He urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities in overcoming post-flood challenges.
The discussion meeting was attended by Chattogram City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, MP Sayed Al Noman, Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md Ziauddin, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah, Chattogram Press Club President Zahidul Karim Kochi, and heads of various government departments.
