RAB Seizes Foreign Cigarettes Worth Tk 90 Lakh in Chattogram, One Arrested

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have seized foreign cigarettes worth Tk 90 lakh in Chattogram, arresting one individual.

In a significant operation, members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have seized a large quantity of foreign cigarettes valued at approximately Tk 90 lakh in the Sadarghat area of Chattogram. During the raid, a 40-year-old man named Belal Hossain was arrested on charges of being involved in smuggling. This information was disclosed through a press release by RAB-7.

Operation Details

The operation was conducted based on secret information indicating that foreign cigarettes of various brands were being stored and sold in a rented warehouse owned by Elias Majhi on East Madarbari Darogarhat Road, Ward No. 30 of Sadarghat Police Station. An operation team from RAB-7 carried out the raid in the warehouse, resulting in the arrest of Belal Hossain, son of the deceased Musa Mia from the Chawkbazar Police Station area.

Seized Items and Legal Action

During the operation, 2,850 cartons of Oris brand and 640 cartons of Patron brand foreign cigarettes were seized. In total, 34,900 packets of foreign cigarettes, with 10 packets in each carton, were recovered. The estimated market value of the seized cigarettes is around Tk 90 lakh, according to ASP ARM Mozaffar Hossain, assistant director (Media) of RAB-7. The process of taking legal action regarding the detained person and the seized goods is currently underway.
