Editors, heads of news, and senior journalists from private television channels have emphasized the need for regular institutional training for journalists on modern journalism practices. This call was made during an exchange of views meeting organized by Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) at its auditorium.

Focus on Digital and Data Journalism

The participants highlighted the importance of training in digital journalism, artificial intelligence (AI), data journalism, and fact-checking. NTV Head of News Fakhrul Alam Kanchan stressed the necessity of regular training programs to enhance journalists' professional skills.

Expanding Mobile Journalism and Building DRU Complex

RTV Head of News Ilias Hossain called for expanding mobile journalism training and building the DRU Complex. He believes these initiatives will better equip journalists with the tools needed in contemporary media landscapes.

Proposal for DRU Training Institute

Channel i Head of News Zahid Newaz Jewel suggested establishing a DRU Training Institute to offer courses on AI, investigative journalism, fact-checking, and data journalism. This institute would serve as a dedicated space for continuous learning and skill development.

Other Training Needs Identified

Other editors highlighted the need for training on language, presentation, pronunciation, health journalism, and digital content creation. These areas were identified as crucial for maintaining high journalistic standards and adapting to audience expectations.

Future Action Plans

DRU leaders announced that the recommendations from the meeting would be considered in future action plans. The goal is to build a stronger, modern, and journalist-friendly organization. The meeting was chaired by DRU President Abu Saleh Akon and moderated by General Secretary Mynul Hasan Sohel.
