A court in Cumilla has sentenced a man to death for the rape and murder of a nine-year-old child in 2024. The Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal-1 handed down the verdict today, fining the convict Mofizul Islam Mofu, 50, Taka 2 lakh. The child was abducted while returning home from school on April 29, 2024, and later killed after being raped in a paddy field. Mofu was arrested by RAB on May 1, 2024, and gave a confessional statement in court. The verdict was reached after recording testimonies from 14 witnesses and reviewing the evidence.
