Integrated initiatives involving government and non-government institutions, law enforcement agencies, lawyers, and civil society are crucial for ensuring the human rights of marginalized people. This was the consensus reached during a coordination meeting with district platform members held at Hotel Warisan, organized by the Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) with support from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) under the 'Songhati' project.

Adv. Jamshed Ali, Senior Member of BLAST's Board of Directors, presided over the meeting, with Adv. Parvez Toufiq Zahedi, General Secretary of Rajshahi Advocate Bar Association, welcoming the participants. BLAST Rajshahi Coordinator Samina Begum conducted the event.

Participants stressed the need for raising social awareness, effective coordination among all relevant institutions, and ensuring the security of marginalized communities. Additional Superintendent of Police Sabina Yasmin highlighted the primary responsibility of law enforcement agencies in this regard, emphasizing the importance of cooperation from civil society.

Durdana Farid, BLAST Senior Outreach Officer and Team Leader of the 'Songhati' project, presented the keynote paper, stating that the district platform will function as a 'Rapid Response Forum'. This platform aims to quickly collect information about potential communal tensions or risks of attacks, coordinate with relevant authorities, and take necessary measures.

Discussions at the meeting covered the security situation, assessment of previous incidents of human rights violations, limitations of legal aid and social services, and identification of new risk areas. Participants expressed hope that such integrated initiatives will play an effective role in ensuring the security of marginalized and minority communities, and in building an inclusive, non-discriminatory, and human rights-based society.
