Eight-Year-Old Girl Drowns in Kishoreganj River While Bathing with Brother

An eight-year-old girl drowned in a river while taking a bath in Itna upazila of Kishoreganj district. The deceased, identified as Faiza, daughter of Md. Naim from Panchkahaniya village under Baribari union, went to the river with her brother on Friday afternoon. Unable to swim, she sank beneath the water.

A diving team from the Fire Service and local residents conducted a search operation for approximately six to seven hours but were unable to locate her. Faiza's body was found floating in the river near the incident site around 8:00 am the following day. Local residents recovered the body.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Habibullah Khan of Itna Police Station confirmed the drowning incident. He stated that the body has been handed over to the victim's family. The tragic incident highlights the dangers of unsupervised activities near water bodies, especially for children who may not know how to swim.

In Bangladesh, drowning is a significant cause of child mortality, often occurring in rural areas where rivers and ponds are common. Ensuring children's safety around water requires community awareness and proper supervision.
