A Chandpur court sentences Md. Arun Bhuiyan to life imprisonment for raping a seven-year-old child in 2021.

A court in Chandpur has sentenced Md. Arun Bhuiyan, 50, to life imprisonment for raping a seven-year-old child in Matlab Uttar upazila in 2021. The court also imposed a fine of Taka 50,000 on Bhuiyan, who is the son of Abdul Qadir Bhuiyan and a resident of Gajra Bhuiyan House in the upazila. District and Sessions Judge Md. Rezaul Karim delivered the verdict, as confirmed by Public Prosecutor Advocate Shirin Sultana Mukta.

Incident Details

According to the prosecution, on July 9, 2021, the child went to a land next to his house with his brother around 11 am. The brother left the child sitting on the land to eat, during which time Bhuiyan took the opportunity to forcibly rape the child.

Legal Proceedings

Following the incident, the child's father filed a case with Matlab Uttar Police Station on July 14, 2021. The accused was arrested by Sub-Inspector Md. Mubarak Ali on July 15, 2021. A charge-sheet was submitted to the court on October 20, 2021, after thorough investigation. The accused confessed to the crime during the trial, leading to the judge's verdict.
