Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) distributed food items among 100 poor and low-income families in the border areas of Kushtia as part of its humanitarian assistance programme. The food distribution programme was held at Pragpur area under Daulatpur upazila this morning, according to a press release issued by Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB) of the paramilitary force.

Event Details and Attendees

Commanding Officer of 47 BGB Lieutenant Colonel Rashed Kamal Rony attended the programme as the chief guest and handed over food packages to the beneficiaries. Among others, the acting deputy commander, acting quartermaster, BGB officers and members, local public representatives, union parishad members, teachers, journalists and other distinguished persons were present at the programme.

Reason for Assistance

BGB officials said many day labourers, agricultural workers and low-income people in the border areas have been facing hardship due to prolonged rainfall and adverse weather conditions, which have affected their regular sources of income during the monsoon season. The release said the initiative was taken as part of the force’s humanitarian responsibility to support the affected people.

Significance and Impact

This humanitarian effort by the BGB is crucial in providing immediate relief to the affected families. The distribution of food items helps mitigate the adverse effects of the monsoon season on the livelihoods of day labourers and agricultural workers. Such initiatives are essential in ensuring that vulnerable populations receive necessary support during challenging times.

Future Implications

The success of this programme may lead to further humanitarian efforts by the BGB in other affected areas. It also highlights the importance of paramilitary forces in contributing to community welfare beyond their primary security roles. Continued support and similar initiatives can help build resilience among low-income families in border areas.
