Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Staff Reporter Al Sadi Bhuiyan has been awarded the international fellowship titled 'Non-Economic Loss and Damage Due to Climate Change in the Bay of Bengal Coastal Region 2026' by the Earth Journalism Network (EJN), an international environmental journalism organisation. Under the fellowship, which brings together selected journalists from different countries, he will produce an investigative report on non-economic loss and damage (NELD) caused by climate change in the Bay of Bengal coastal region. The report will highlight the long-term impacts of climate change on culture, social cohesion, displacement, mental health, livelihoods and women in coastal communities.
Background of the Fellowship
The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) provides fellowships, grants, training and editorial support to journalists from different countries to produce high-quality investigative reports on environmental and climate issues. The fellowship awarded to Al Sadi Bhuiyan is specifically focused on the non-economic impacts of climate change in the Bay of Bengal region, a critical area affected by rising sea levels, extreme weather events and changing ecosystems.
Al Sadi Bhuiyan's Background and Focus
Al Sadi Bhuiyan, who currently covers the Anti-Corruption Commission, environment, forests, climate change and migration for BSS, completed his bachelor's and master's degrees in Anthropology from the University of Dhaka. He also served as president of the Dhaka University Journalists' Association (DUJA). His investigative report will delve into the profound and often overlooked non-economic consequences of climate change, offering valuable insights into the human and cultural dimensions of this global crisis.
