Local reports in West Bengal indicate that 471 Bangladeshi nationals are detained in holding centers in Basirhat, Baduria, and Swarupnagar. The individuals, mostly from the labor class, are being held while their identities are verified through biometric data collection by the Border Security Force (BSF).

The BSF has stated that no one will be returned to Bangladesh until their identities are confirmed. The administration is providing necessary health services, regular meals, and security to ensure the well-being of the detainees before their return.

The BJP government in West Bengal has intensified efforts to curb alleged infiltration along the border. The state's new Hindu nationalist BJP government has initiated the process of transferring land to the BSF for the rapid completion of barbed wire fencing along the border.
