Three Pakistani Rangers were killed and four wounded in a terror attack by Jamaat-ul-Ahrar in Karachi on Saturday evening. The attack involved an explosion and heavy gunfire at a Rangers camp in the southern megacity.
Attack Details
According to a statement released by the Pakistan Armed Forces, the terror group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar was responsible for the attack. The assailants attempted to breach the camp's perimeter security after a blast at the main gate, but their attempt was foiled by the Rangers' vigilant response. Three attackers were killed, and another was wounded.
Government Response
The armed forces statement vowed to continue efforts to eliminate foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country and promised retaliation. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah called for a detailed report into the incident. President Asif Ali Zardari expressed his sympathy and condolences to the families of the martyrs and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured personnel.
Background
Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a militant group often linked to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has been responsible for numerous attacks in Pakistan. Islamabad has accused Afghanistan of providing a safe haven to militants since the Afghan Taliban returned to governing the country in 2021, a claim Kabul has repeatedly denied.
