Paris has deployed around 100 firefighters to southwest France to aid in the fight against severe wildfires. The head of the Paris Fire Brigade informed AFP of the deployment, highlighting the critical need for additional resources in the region. These firefighters will primarily engage in wildfire suppression operations.

Intense Firefighting Efforts

Hundreds of firefighters have been working tirelessly for the past three days to contain the wildfires in the southwestern departments of Gironde and Landes. The fires, particularly intense in Gironde, have necessitated a robust response. Arnaud de Cacqueray, commander of the Paris Fire Brigade, noted that 45 firefighters and six vehicles from Paris had already been sent to Gironde.

Impact and Previous Deployments

The wildfires in Gironde and Landes have led to the evacuation of over 140,000 people and have consumed 22,000 hectares (54,000 acres) of land. De Cacqueray mentioned that this deployment is nearly three times greater than the one in 2022, indicating the severity of the current situation. He also warned that response times in Paris might be affected, urging residents to contact firefighters only in cases of absolute emergency.
