Over 390 drones targeted the Moscow region overnight, the mayor of Moscow reported. Sergei Sobyanin said that between 8:30 pm and 6:30 am, more than 390 drones were detected flying towards the Moscow region. Most were neutralized by air defence forces before reaching the city, with 81 enemy UAVs destroyed as they approached Moscow.
Moscow regional governor Andrey Vorobyov also reported that the drone attacks resulted in damage to housing in the town of Chekhov and the Vaulovo village. The attacks come ahead of a scheduled meeting between Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump.
The incident highlights the ongoing tensions and military activities near the Russian capital. The Russian air defence system demonstrated effectiveness in intercepting the majority of the drones, minimizing potential damage within the city itself.
The timing of the attack is significant, occurring just hours before a high-profile meeting between Zelensky and Trump. This could indicate an attempt to influence or disrupt diplomatic efforts. The exact origin and purpose of the drones remain subjects of investigation.
