Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen today reaffirmed China's steadfast support for Bangladesh during disasters and humanitarian crises. Speaking at the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) national headquarters, Yao Wen handed over US$100,000 in emergency assistance to support ongoing flood response efforts. The donation, made on behalf of the Red Cross Society of China, aims to aid communities affected by recent floods and landslides. Yao Wen highlighted China's ongoing commitment to helping Bangladesh, including annual training programs and provision of flood-response equipment. The ambassador also pledged continued humanitarian assistance and training for BDRCS volunteers. BDRCS Chairman Barrister Md Abdus Salam expressed gratitude for China's support, stating that the assistance would help expand emergency operations, including food distribution, safe drinking water, temporary shelter, hygiene kits, and medical services.
China's Long-Standing Support
Ambassador Yao Wen emphasized China's consistent support for Bangladesh during crises. He noted that China has provided emergency assistance and equipment in the past, which are now being utilized in the current flood response. The ambassador's remarks underscored the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations and China's commitment to standing by Bangladesh in times of need.
BDRCS's Emergency Response Efforts
BDRCS Chairman Barrister Md Abdus Salam provided an overview of the organization's emergency response activities. As of July 21, Taka 3.39 million had been released for emergency operations. BDRCS has distributed over 2,500 food packages, rescued and evacuated more than 22,000 people, provided medical assistance to over 2,000 individuals, and distributed over 37,000 liters of safe drinking water. The organization has mobilized 12 Red Crescent units and deployed more than 3,500 volunteers for emergency response operations.
