Shreyas Iyer has been appointed as the new captain of India's T20I team, succeeding Suryakumar Yadav. In a surprising move, 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has earned his maiden call-up to the national squad. Suryavanshi, who has a strike rate of over 200 in the IPL, could become the youngest Indian to play an international match if he debuts before turning 16.
The squad has been announced for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England, as well as the Asian Games in Japan. Notable exclusions include Rinku Singh and Kuldeep Yadav, who were part of the T20 World Cup-winning team. Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested, though Bumrah is included in the Asian Games squad.
Surykumar Yadav, who led India to T20 World Cup victory, has been dropped from the squad. Iyer, who has a strong record as a captain in the IPL, takes over the reins. Suryavanshi's inclusion marks a historic moment for Indian cricket, as he could break Sachin Tendulkar's record as the youngest Indian to play an international match.
