Tofail Ahmed, a veteran Bangladeshi politician and organizer of the 1971 Liberation War, passed away on Monday at the age of 82. He died while receiving treatment at Square Hospital in Dhaka.
Ahmed had been suffering from various age-related complications for a long time. He leaves behind a daughter and numerous well-wishers.
Born on October 22, 1943, in Bhola, Ahmed was a prominent figure in Bangladesh's political landscape. He served as a member of the Pakistan National Assembly in 1970 and was elected to the Bangladeshi parliament nine times. He also held several ministerial positions and was a member of the advisory council of the Awami League.
His first funeral prayer will be held today after Maghrib at the Takwa Mosque in Dhanmondi. Another funeral prayer will be held in his home district of Bhola on Tuesday, followed by his burial in his ancestral village.
