The National Citizen Party (NCP) organized a protest march in Dhaka to oppose the increase in electricity and fuel prices. The march, held on Thursday night, started from Banglamotor and ended at the Intercontinental Hotel intersection. The Dhaka North branch of the NCP arranged the event. Party leaders accused the current BNP government of breaking promises and making life difficult for the people. They claimed the government is trying to exploit the public.
NCP's Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari criticized the government for raising prices just a month after stating there would be no increase within two years. He called the government inconsistent and untrustworthy. Patwari warned the government that the public would resist if they continued to impose financial burdens.
Ariful Islam Adib, Senior Co-Convener and Dhaka North Convener of NCP, accused the government of betraying the public and protecting looters. He highlighted the recent 16% increase in electricity prices and previous hikes in fuel prices. Adib also criticized the appointment of individuals with questionable pasts to key banking positions.
Tariqul Islam, President of NCP's youth organization Jatiya Juba Shakti, accused the government of using price hikes to fund party leaders and workers at the expense of the public. He warned that the public would hold the government accountable for their hardships.
The protest march included speeches from various NCP leaders, followed by the march from Banglamotor to the Intercontinental Hotel intersection. Akhtar Hossain, Member of Parliament for Rangpur-4 and NCP's Member Secretary, also participated in the protest.
