An event organized by the National Citizen Party (NCP) in Rupganj, Narayanganj, faced an attack before it commenced, leading to injuries of 10 individuals, including party leaders and workers. The incident occurred at the Kuliadi Government Primary School ground where the NCP had planned a fruit festival. According to NCP, the attack was carried out by a group armed with local weapons.
The event was to be attended by NCP's Chief Organizer Nasiruddin Patwari and Central Organizing Secretary and Narayanganj-4 MP Abdullah Al Amin. The attackers arrived on motorcycles, armed with local weapons, and vandalized the stage and pandal. They also assaulted NCP leaders and workers who tried to intervene. Among the injured were NCP's Upazila Organizer Al Farabi, Jatiya Juba Shakti's Joint District Secretary Imon, and NCP District Committee Member Sakhawat Hossain Tareq. Al Farabi was taken to the hospital in a critical condition.
NCP's Joint Organizing Secretary Nirab Raihan accused former Senior Vice President of the District Student League and former Upazila Student League Convener Sultan Mahmud of leading the attack. Raihan claimed that Mahmud and his followers had also attacked the event venue the previous night, tearing down the pandal's cloth and threatening to prevent the event. However, police and administration had assured security for the event.
In a Facebook post, NCP's Central Joint Secretary Abdullah Al Amin accused BNP terrorists of carrying out the attack in the presence of police. He demanded immediate action against the attackers. Sultan Mahmud denied the allegations, claiming the incident was fabricated and that he was not involved.
District Police Superintendent Mijanur Rahman Munshi visited the scene and stated that police, local MP, and local BNP were prepared for the NCP's pre-scheduled event. However, unexpectedly, two to three miscreants vandalized the bamboo stage. NCP leader Nasir Uddin Patwari completed the event peacefully, and two individuals were arrested for interrogation. Their party affiliations are yet to be determined.
