National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has criticized the proposed national budget as 'ambitious, unrealistic, and debt-ridden.' Speaking to journalists outside the National Parliament on Thursday night, he likened the budget to 'chanachur,' stating it may look good and taste nice but lacks nutritional value.
Islam, who is also the Opposition Chief Whip in the National Parliament, noted that while the Finance Minister spoke of economic democratization, there was no discussion on banking and economic sector reforms. He questioned what measures would be taken against defaulters, how stolen money would be brought back, and how the government would increase revenue.
He expressed skepticism about the budget's ability to bring about fundamental economic changes, stating that economic reforms cannot be separated from political reforms. Islam also criticized the politicization of the banking sector, citing Islami Bank as an example, and questioned the government's commitment to political and economic reforms.
